OUR LOVE STORY

His:
I arrived home one Friday evening in January. My roommate, Alex Davenport, told me to hurry up and get dressed because we were going to meet friends at a new bar in Indy. That day I had been laid off from work. However, I already had a new job lined up and I was ready to celebrate! When I met Alex that night, one of the first questions she asked was, “What do you do for a living?”. To which I replied, “I’m unemployed.” It caught Alex by surprise, but luckily didn’t scare her off. We spent the night deep in conversation and before we knew it, we were the last few people at the bar. I offered to walk her home. Before I left her for the night, I asked to take her out on a date later that week. She quickly responded, “yes!” and our lives together began that day.

After a two year stint of living in Chicago together, Alex and I made the move to South Bend. I knew the timing was right to pop the question. I had the proposal all planned out. We had a family vacation planned at her lakehouse and I decided I would do it there. I wanted to propose right when we arrived at the lake to catch her by surprise. The entire five hour drive up was accompanied by torrential downpours. I grew nervous that the weather would not clear off in time. Her father texted me when we were just a few minutes away informing me that the sky cleared up and the sun was shining! When we arrived I rushed Alex to the end of the dock, under the assumption we were going to look at their new boat. When I got down on my knee, I was so nervous, I forgot everything I was going to say to her, and barely got out the, “Will you marry me?” She quickly responded, “Yes!”, yet again.

Hers:
On a cold January night three years ago my roommate Kyley and I went out to celebrate a raise for IPS teachers. We decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. When we finished dinner and asked for our check, our server explained that another table overheard our reason for celebration and bought our dinner. We saw this as a sign of good luck and declared we had to hit the town. We went to a new bar down the street. Justin was there with a few mutual friends and we spent the rest of the evening lost in conversation. When we looked around and realized all our friends had gone home, Justin offered to walk me home. We were stunned to find out we lived right across the street from each other! After our walk home Justin asked me on our first date. I quickly texted my cousin Sam, who was Justin’s fraternity brother, to get the dirt on him. Sam gave his stamp of approval and even noted that we would be a great match. Sam was right. Before we knew it we were living together in Chicago having the best time exploring a new city. When Justin proposed he caught me by complete surprise. Even my sister Audrey kept it a secret for the whole six hour car ride. As soon as we got to the lake Justin was adamant we go look at the boat at the end of the dock. I sat down on the bench to look out at the water while he pretended to look at the boat. He quickly turned around, got down on one knee and proposed! When I first started dating Justin I told my grandmother he was so nice and well mannered he didn’t seem real. Little did I know he would become my real prince charming!
